Taíno Bay at a glance
Taíno Bay opened in December 2021 in the heart of Puerto Plata, so unlike most Caribbean ports you can reach the city's historic centre without a long transfer. Several major cruise lines call here, and the ones that do can change from season to season, so always check your itinerary for the exact port.
That location makes Taíno Bay ideal for two kinds of days: a relaxed private city tour built around the old town, or a half-day adventure outside the city. Our buggy and ATV base is in Maimón, about 12 km (roughly 20 minutes by car, depending on traffic) west of the city. We pick you up at the pier and take you there.

A private driver takes you to Parque Independencia, Calle Rosada, the Malecón, Fortaleza San Felipe and the Amber Museum, at your own pace and with time for coffee, shopping and photos.
Head for the trails
Ride a buggy or ATV through villages, rivers and mud, then cool off at Playa Teco. Our driver brings you back to the pier ahead of all-aboard.
Mix it up

Where do we meet at Taíno Bay?
At the pier. Your driver waits with a sign with your name, and we confirm the exact meeting spot by email or WhatsApp after you book. Please be ready about 10 minutes early.
Is Taíno Bay close to the city centre?
Yes. The port is in the centre of Puerto Plata, so the old town, the Malecón and Fortaleza San Felipe are a short ride from the pier. That is why a private city tour works so well from here.
How long does the drive to the buggy and ATV base take?
Our base is at Playa Teco in Maimón, roughly 12 km (around 20 minutes by car, depending on traffic) from the city. Round-trip transport is included in your tour price.
Will I be back before the ship leaves?
Yes. Give us your all-aboard time when you book. We plan your tour backwards from it and guarantee you are back at the pier before your ship sails.
Is the cable car (Teleférico) open?
No. The Isabel de Torres cable car closed in 2024 and a major rehabilitation project was announced in March 2026, so it is not part of our city tours for now. We will add it back as soon as it reopens.
How much is a private city tour?
About $60 per person, with round-trip pickup at the port included. We quote it on WhatsApp because it depends on your group size and the stops you choose.
How do I pay, and what if I need to cancel?
Pay in full online or reserve with a 20% deposit and pay the balance on arrival in US dollars. Bookings made through our Viator listing can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before the tour. For direct bookings, message us on WhatsApp as early as you can.
Do you also serve Amber Cove?
Yes. We pick up at both Puerto Plata cruise ports, Taíno Bay and Amber Cove, and at hotels in the area.
